Guehi

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has included an English “true leader” on his shortlist of potential replacements for Harry Maguire in the upcoming January transfer window.

Harry Maguire had expressed his desire to leave Manchester United if he does not receive sufficient playing time. In response, the club’s solution appears straightforward: not playing him. If this strategy allows them to part ways with a player who is widely considered subpar and unsuitable for the high level of competition, it would be a mutually beneficial outcome for Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United has set their sights on Marc Guehi as a prospective replacement for Harry Maguire. Recent reports, as cited by the South London Press (via 90min), suggest that Guehi, who plays as a center back for Crystal Palace and represents England, is among the January transfer targets for Manchester United.

The potential addition of Marc Guehi could be a significant upgrade over Harry Maguire. Therefore, the prospect of losing Maguire and acquiring Guehi could represent the ideal scenario for Erik ten Hag.

Marc Guehi, at the age of 23, already exhibits remarkable composure, a quality that many defenders strive to attain. He not only excels as a composed center back capable of playing the ball out from the back but also possesses a commanding presence in defense, serving as an inspiration to his teammates to adopt a similar style of play.

Erik ten Hag’s objective should be to bring in a ball-playing center back. While he has already brought in Andre Onana, a goalkeeper proficient with the ball at his feet, the current challenge lies in the absence of a defender capable of effectively initiating play from the back. To fully implement the Erik ten Hag philosophy, Marc Guehi may emerge as the most suitable choice.
